Michael J. Hunter joined Northeast Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center in 1998. He is a graduate of Boston University (cum laude: distinction in Biology) and Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. He has completed his internship and residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Boston University’s Goldman School of Dental Medicine and Boston Medical Center in 1990. Following the successful completion of his residency training, Dr. Hunter accepted an appointment as Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine and Boston Medical Center. Dr. Hunter’s responsibilities included the education of undergraduate dental students and postgraduate residents in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Hunter is the former Director of the Pain and Anxiety Control Program at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. He has participated in several volunteer trips to perform cleft lip and palate surgery in South America. In addition, he has lectured at numerous national and international meetings, composed book chapters and published several scientific journal articles.
Dr. Hunter is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Society of Anesthesia, American Dental Association, Massachusetts Dental Society and Merrimack Valley Dental Society. Dr. Hunter has been certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support.
He is a Senior Staff surgeon at Lawrence General Hospital (Lawrence, Massachusetts), former President of the Massachusetts Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and served as one of three Massachusetts delegates to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for 22 years. Dr. Hunter has served on the Committee of Governmental Affairs for both the Massachusetts Dental Society and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Hunter continues to lecture at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Hunter and his family reside in the Merrimack Valley area. His community involvement includes volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America and as a youth basketball coach.
